Upcoming events at this location

The NATO S&T Collaboration Support Office and the Applied Vehicle Technologies Panel (AVT) are pleased to announce the

AVT-393 Research Workshop

on

"Environmental and Thermal Barrier Coatings for Military Aircraft Engines"

to be held in

Ottawa, Canada

15-17 May 2024

In-Person Meeting

The registration deadline is 15 March 2024

The meeting is open to citizens from NATO nations, Australia, Japan and Sweden.

Please be aware that the setups for the event are "in-person only" (hybrid/virtual attendance is not possible).

Theme & expected scientific outcome:

The AVT-393 Team has arranged a Research Workshop (RWS) on Environmental and Thermal Barrier Coatings for Military Aircraft Engines. This RWS seeks to understand the problem around the thermal and environmental barrier coatings (E/TBC) materials and their damage and failures caused by oxidation and hot corrosion. This two-year AVT activity culminates in a workshop to identify the current status of the research into E/TBCs and the current capability gaps. In addition, this activity will help establish NATO ‘best practices’ in E/TBCs processing, qualification and acceptance for combustor and turbine components in military aircraft engines. This proposal will be jointly administrated under the Applied Vehicles Technologies (AVT) Panel by the Power and Propulsion Systems (PPS) and Mechanical Systems, Structures and Materials (MSM) Technical Committees.

The registration deadline is 15 March 2024.

*The General Information Package (GIP) will be visible and ready for download after your registration has been confirmed and validated by the AVT Panel Office. You will find GIP in the grey box below the google map picture (must be first login to STO Events).

We look forward to seeing you all in Ottawa!

Tuesday, 21. May 2024 until Wednesday, 22. May 2024 08:00 - 17:30

The NATO STO Collaboration Support Office and the Applied Vehicle Technology (AVT) Panel will hold a Research Specialists' Meeting on "More Electric Gas Turbine Engines for Aircraft, Rotorcraft and UAVs". The in-person meeting (AVT-374) will be held in Ottawa, Canada from 21-22 May 2024.

The meeting is open to citizens from NATO Nations and Partners. Please note that this is an in-person only event (hybrid/virtual attendance is not possible).

This registration is for individuals who are attending the AVT-374 Research Specialists' Meeting held in conjunction with 53rd AVT Panel Business Meeting.

The registration deadline is 19 April 2024.

Objectives:

This meeting aims to promote the exchange of knowledge among an audience of experts and specialists on current practices and research on electrification of gas turbine engines for aircraft, rotorcrafts and UAVs.

In more precise terms, the electrification of gas turbine engines for aircraft, rotorcraft and UAVs will be detailed along the following lines:

  • Why is electrification of some engine sub-systems so useful at the level of the engine and of the aircraft?
  • What makes that electrification of some sub-systems is so important in new engine and aircraft configurations (as, for example, the so-called ventless bearing chambers or in geared turbofans)?
  • Which sub-systems are the most useful to be electrified? Describe some of these applications and quantify the advantages.
  • Analyze and study in detail some of these more electric sub-systems (power generator and conversion systems, electrically-driven fuel and oil pumps, electric de-oilers, new engine sensors, power generation components present in the oil system, health monitoring systems, EMA)

This meeting will allow the definition of quantified advantages brought by these (more) electrical sub-systems at engine and aircraft level, with contributions intended to a better exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge and future aero-engine developments, and the impact on NATO S&T priorities.

For more details about the event, please consult the meeting announcement.
